It's a Wrap....for now....

Well done on the award speeches today. It has been a fast semester...always seems so strange how five weeks can fly by so fast. I appreciate your efforts this semester. Thank you for your contribution in making this a great class this summer. I saw many of you making great strides in our second speech. You illustrated to me that you are starting to pull all our criteria together for effective speechmaking. Way to Go!

Rest up! Enjoy the rest of your summer break! Our first class on September 9 will be here before you know it...remember to bring an outfit back to class this fall for your speech days!

See you again in September!

Final Speech for Summer EOP 2010 Award Speeches

Award speeches require a simple pattern of information to present or accept speeches. First, we are clear of the qualifications of the speech. Discuss the speech and include the requirements needed to earn this award. Second, share with us the recipient's qualifications in accordance to the criteria. And, lastly, share with us the nominated candidates and save the recipient's name for this last moment to create a moment of surprise. The acceptance speech should be sure to thank the organization bestowing the award of you, then, thank the people that directly helped you in earning this award. Be sure to be positive and gracious. Being humble will take you a long way in life!
It is your goal in this speech to create a speech that recognizes an important quality or talent illustrated by a fellow student this semester in our speech class. You will follow the guidelines discussed in class and summarized in this blog to create your award speech. Also, you will be accepting an award and will be creating an acceptance speech as well. This speech assignment requires thought to apply these criteria. No one is allowed to try and create a spur of the moment speech here! Please think carefully about your assigned person. Find something special that they brought to class this semester and develop a speech that will allow them to shine in class! Bring a sense of dignity and honor to this person. And, remember, no rambling...preparation is key!

Critique #2 Passion Speech

Nice effort on the first day of our second round of speeches! I am happy to see that someone you took the comments from last time and made some wonderful improvements! Well Done! We will be critiquing our speech buddies again in this passion speech. I want more depth in the details used than in the last post. I am looking for comments that discuss strength and improvements and be sure to give your buddy some suggestions on how to make the improvements. Comments should not be limited to delivery suggestions only. REMEMBER: you are an entire message up there that combines in both content and delivery. Think about the organization. Did you hear a speech pattern? Think about the supporting details. Did the speaker create clarity, interest and retention? How? How strong was the academic research? Was expertise shown? Think about audience adaptation. What techniques were utilized to adapt to the audience? Think about the visual aids. How did they assist in producing clarity or interest? Were items fully supported? Were citations correctly utilized? Break down the process and share a thoughtful post that illustrates to me that you are integrating the material this semester and understand what is needed to achieve "effective" communication. This critique is due Wednesday, Aug. 11 before the start of class.
